The world is a busy place and it's easy to get caught up in the daily grind, getting lost thinking about the past or planning for the future. How often do you hit pause, recognize and appreciate the little things that make life so great? Learning to enjoy the little things is an important step in making your dreams come true. Here are some simple tips to embrace the beauty in the little things, be more present, and live in the moment.

Simple ways to enjoy everyday life 

Slow down. 

While you're running from place to place and always on, stressed that your long to-do list won't get done, life passes you by. Our days can easily become filled with endless tasks, but if we never stop and pay attention to the little things in our lives, we can miss what really matters. Every now and then, take the time to look around you and notice what you are grateful for. Is it the smell of coffee in the morning? The walk with your dog in the woods? Or do you enjoy being together with your partner, friends and family. Remember that every day is unique and will never come back. Take the time to pause and enjoy everyday moments that make you happy - no matter how small they sometimes seem to be. 

Be grateful 

The key to a happy and fulfilled life is gratitude. Appreciate what you have and let go of what you don't have or what is yet to come. A good way to practice gratitude is to keep a diary in which you write three things every day that you are grateful for. Research shows that people who record their daily feelings of gratitude and blessings experience a more positive mood and have a more optimistic outlook on their lives. Take 10 or 15 minutes before bedtime to write down. You will soon notice that your appreciation for the little things in your life increases. 

Focus on your feelings 

Another way to practice living in the moment is to simply take the time to focus on your feelings and your senses. What's happening around you? What are three things you can see, three things you can smell, feel or hear? When you are more aware of what your senses perceive, it quickly becomes easier to perceive all the beautiful things around you. The things you might have missed before.

Take the time for yourself 

To enjoy the little things, it is important that you take time for yourself. Make time for a self-care routine that makes you happy and calm. Whether this is your daily skincare, a walk in nature or simply a cup of hot coffee in the morning.  Focus on the things that make you happy, hobbies that inspire and stimulate you. By taking good care of yourself and focusing on the things you love, you create a life full of happiness and beautiful little moments.
